HONOR BANDS
6th Grade Strong Foundations
Held in Sioux City in January this honor band is based on director nominations. Nomination comments include the student's comfortable playing range (highest and lowest note), page they are on in their book, and their work ethic.
Selected students rehearse in Sioux City during the day and perform a concert at 6:00PM at East High School. Family and friends are invited to the performance.

District Junior High Honor Band
Interested 7th and 8th graders will audition in Storm Lake on Saturday in October We leave approximately at 6:00AM and return at 6:00PM. If selected, students rehearse and perform a concert on a Saturday in November. Family and friends are invited to the performance. Admission: $5
Brass and woodwind players will memorize eight scales and prepare two etudes. Percussionists will memorize eight scales on mallets, play several rudiments on snare, and tune intervals on the timpani. They will learn an etude on all three instruments. More specific information on percussion auditions and strategies can be found on my Timpani Trainer website. Use this to practice!

High School All-State Band
Interested 9th-12th graders will audition in Storm Lake on a Saturday in October. We leave approximately at 6:00AM and return at 6:00PM. If selected, students rehearse and perform a concert at the Iowa High School Music Association Festival in November.
2021-2022: Miles Bulthuis, Naomi Post, Miguel Islas, Hania Islas, Kalynn Marxen
Brass and woodwind players will memorize the twelve major scales plus chromatic and prepare two etudes.
Percussionists will memorize the same scales on mallets, play several rudiments on snare, and tune intervals on the timpani (same as middle school, but they add a couple more.) They will learn an etude on all three instruments.
District High School Honor Band
The audition requirements are the same as All-State, but you may play less of the etudes. Interested 9th-12th graders will audition the same Saturday as the JH Honor Band performance in November. We leave approximately at 6:00AM and return at 6:00PM. If selected, students rehearse and perform a concert on a Saturday in January. Family and friends are invited to the performance. Admission: $5
